Quran Reading (Nazra)
Nazra is reading the Quran directly from the Mushaf with a teacher listening and correcting. It follows Noorani Qaida and typically takes six to twelve months to reach fluent, accurate reading, working page by page towards completing the whole Quran.
This is the course most families mean when they say they want their child to "read the Quran". The student reads aloud from the Mushaf, the teacher corrects as they go, and over months the reading becomes fluent, accurate and unhesitating.
It is deliberately unglamorous work. Progress comes from reading aloud every session and having every mistake caught in the moment — which is exactly what a group class cannot provide.

What you need before starting
- Recognise all Arabic letters and read harakat, sukoon, shaddah, madd and tanween — i.e. Noorani Qaida completed, or a short assessment showing the equivalent.

Stages run in order, each one assuming the last is secure. Timings assume two to three classes a week and are adjusted to the individual student.

Starting with what the student already half-knows, which builds confidence, then moving to surahs they have never heard so the reading is genuinely from the page.

Applied Tajweed while reading

Rules are introduced as they appear on the page — ghunnah, qalqalah, the basic noon sakinah rules — rather than as a separate list to memorise.

Longer surahs and sustained reading

Building stamina: reading half a page, then a full page, without the accuracy dropping as the student tires.

Structured progress through the Mushaf with a running record of pages completed, working towards a complete recitation of the Quran with the teacher.
What a class looks like
- The student reads the day’s portion aloud while the teacher follows on the same page.
- Mistakes are corrected immediately; recurring ones become the focus of the next session rather than being listed all at once.
- The teacher marks the stopping point so the next class picks up exactly where this one ended.
How progress is measured
- Fluency is judged on an unfamiliar page, not a rehearsed one: can the student read it at a steady pace with correct articulation and no guessing?
- Monthly reports record pages covered, recurring error patterns and what is being worked on next.
Quran Reading (Nazra) — common questions
- How long does it take to read the Quran fluently?
- Six to twelve months of consistent classes after finishing the Qaida is the usual range for fluent, accurate reading. Completing a full khatam page by page takes longer and depends on how much is read per session.
- Is Tajweed taught in this course?
- The basics are applied as they come up on the page, so reading is correct from the start. The formal rules — the full noon sakinah family, madd types, their terminology — are studied properly in the Tajweed course once reading is fluent.
- What if my child reads too quickly to be accurate?
- That is one of the most common problems we correct. The teacher slows the pace deliberately, often reading alongside the student, until accuracy holds at speed. Rushing is a habit, and it responds to being read with rather than being told off.
